The Simplicity Felt Filter Sock with Plastic Ring is a cost-effective and easy-to-use form of mechanical filtration that improves water clarity by trapping floating debris in the water column.

Filter Sock Material Types

• Felt Filter Socks: Made from a thicker, non-woven material that is superior at removing finer particles in the water column and trapping micro-bubbles. Due to their thicker material, felt socks clog faster and are more difficult to clean.
• Mesh Filter Socks: Made from a thinner, woven material that is good for removing larger particles in the water column. Due to their thinner material, mesh socks don’t clog as quickly and are easier to clean; however, they will not remove as many particles from the water column.

Filter Sock Styles

• Plastic Ring: Attaches via a round ring that fits most standard sump holders
• Drawstring: Attaches directly to plumbing 

Cleaning Options

Washing Machine:

• Turn the socks inside out and place them in the washing machine

• Use hot water and a capful of bleach (no detergent)
• Run a full cycle
• Run an additional rinse cycle
• Dry thoroughly (drying completely removes any remaining bleach from the sock)

Power Washing:

• Blast away debris from the socks
• Rinse thoroughly
• Dry thoroughly (drying completely removes any remaining bleach from the sock)

Specifications

• Recommended Usage: For tanks with a single filter sock, we recommend using a felt sock, and for tanks with multiple socks, we recommend using a mesh first to remove larger particles and a felt second to remove finer particles.
• Recommended Replacement Schedule: Every 3-4 days. Change socks more frequently for tanks with heavy stocking and dirty conditions, and less often for tanks with lighter stocking and lower nitrate and phosphate levels.
